In the north, police are trying to stop gangs of young Moslem men from attacking Christian neighborhoods in the city of Kano. Demonstrations have been banned and police patrols increased. Violence four weeks ago left dozens dead and over 20,000 refugees (most Christian.) Kano has a population of about seven million.

Tribal violence has died down in central Nigeria's Plateau state, but this is mainly because of the thousands of additional police and troops sent to the area. The tension, and thousands of armed civilians, are still there.

Christmas is around the corner. StrategyPage needs your help to make it a merry one for our content elves. Because of falling ad revenues and the owners of the site wanting you to have a good experience, the content elves may recieve no gifts from Santa Dunnigan.

What can you do to help the content elves have a merry Christmas? There are three possibilities:

  1. Make sure you spread the word about us. Two ways to do that are to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
  2. Subscribe to our daily newsletter. We’ll send the news to your email box, and you don’t have to come to the site unless you want to read columns or see photos.
  3. You can contribute to the health of StrategyPage. A contribution is not a donation that you can deduct at tax time, but a form of crowdfunding. We store none of your information when you contribute..

Drake appreciates any help you can give him.
