The government has not been able to substantially reduce corruption and the diversion of oil income. This has caused increasing unrest and threatens a complete breakdown in public order. Attempts to obtain income for needed repairs on public infrastructure and oil production facilities by raising the domestic price for fuel merely led to civil disorder. While the majority of Nigerians realize that clean government is the only solution to the economic and political problems, not enough politicians want to actually apply the solution.
