Procurement: April 14, 2003

Indonesia, unable to buy new arms from Western supplies because of decades of dictatorship and military atrocities, has turned more and more to Russia. The Indonesian Marines have bought 10,000 AK-101, a dozen Mil-2 helicopters and a number of BTR-80A amphibious armored vehicles. The AK-101 looks like the AK-47, but uses the same 5.56mm ammunition as the M-16s that Indonesia already has many of.
