According to the 17 June weekly Russian political newspaper Argumenty i fakty, over 397,000 military personnel have fought in the Chechen Wars and of those, 61,000 were wounded. Official figures show that 2,410 Russian servicemen died and 6,053 were wounded in Chechnya, between October 1999 and 30 May 2002. There are currently over 750,000 Russian veterans of fifty local wars and armed conflicts; 80,000 of them are invalids and there are 43,000 families of servicemen KIA. However, only 10% of these veterans (mostly from the Afghan War) in need of aid receive any real assistance from the state. - Adam Geibel
