In the Western city of Herat, soldiers and policemen fighting over a woman, opened fire on each other, leaving at least six dead. 

In south central Afghanistan, two Taliban leaders were put out of action. Mullah Besmillah, a senior Taliban leader in  Uruzgan province, was killed in a clash with Afghan troops. Another militant, Mullah Abdul Manan, was captured by soldiers.
