A British outpost in Kabul came under fire. When the British returned fire, several civilians were hit. 

In the north, fighting between Uzbek and Tajik warlords left four dead. The government has called for an increase in the size of the peacekeeping force to help deal with this. 

An Australian SAS commando was killed when his vehicle hit a mine.

Officials in Kandahar believe Taliban leader Mullah Omar is hiding out with kinsmen in the mountains north of the city.
