Noting how increasingly out of control some warlords were becoming, US troops have stopped handing over weapons and munitions found during sweeps. This will cause some ill will, as the local Afghan gunmen hired by American troops to help in the sweeps, saw the free weapons as part of their pay. But it's become obvious that the fewer weapons there are in the back country, the less violence there will be.
