Two Northern Alliance helicopter gunships attacked a Taliban base 60 kilometers from the Uzbekistan border. The Northern Alliance receives considerable military and economic aid from Russia, which is where they probably got the helicopters. The Northern Alliance no longer has an airfield that large cargo aircraft can land on. There are said to be improvised landing fields for smaller aircraft to land supplies and personnel on. Meanwhile, UN and Western aid personnel have been leaving Kabul for the last two days. The UN expects there might be American cruise missile attacks on the city soon.
