The Taliban say they will treat any UN arms monitors as enemies. The UN is sending monitors to insure that weapons do not get into Afghanistan illegally. Pakistan is considered the largest source of Taliban arms and ammunition. Many armed Pakistanis near the Afghan border are pro-Taliban. The Pakistani government has criticized the Taliban for threatening UN monitors operating on the Pakistan side of the border.
