Afghanistan: December 14, 1999


The US announced that the Taliban will be held responsible for any further terrorism traced back to Osama bin Laden. The Taliban protested that they are against terrorism. At the same time, the Taliban have restricted Bin Laden's movement and cut off his access to telephones or fax.  On a related front, the Taliban said they would not allow Chechns to establish a government in exile in Afghanistan. Many of the Moslem fundamentalists who are in Chechenya were trained in Afghan camps.
