The Navy has awarded $750,000 design contracts to four contractors (Boeing, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman; total $3 million) to come up with a multi-role unmanned combat aircraft. The aircraft must be able to operate 24 hours within 200 nautical miles of the ship, and carry a variety of weapons. --Stephen V Cole
