Many Nigerian naval officers are accused of making millions by turning a blind eye to oil smuggling, while the Nigerian Navy remains dilapidated and ineffective, to the point that they have requested the assistance of a Lagos warship. Only two of their four helicopters still fly and the gun boats deployed to the area seem unable to quell the fighting. - Adam Geibel
