In the south east, violence between the national police and vigilantes supported by the local governor has left twelve policemen injured. Eight members of the vigilante group, the Bakassi Boys, were arrested. The vigilantes were under police pressure because of  recent political murders. Apparently the politicians backing the vigilantes were using the Bakassi boys to settle political scores.
