Yet another report that al Qaeda is operating in Somalia. These have proven baseless, or much exaggerated, in the past. There are some Islamic conservatives and radicals in Somalia, as there are everywhere in the Islamic world. But the existence of a functioning al Qaeda branch in all that factional chaos makes a great headline, but is otherwise a reach. Especially with American counter-terrorism forces operating out of Djbouti just to the north.
