: US forces escalated their raids into the heartlands of Iraqi insurgents in the last 24 hours, netting more than 140 suspects and seizing large weapons caches. These "targeted" raids, some a result of intelligence provided by local Iraqis, netted 87 individuals suspected of links with anti-coalition attacks or hiding weapons caches.

In the Ramadi region, west of Baghdad, US forces captured 39 suspects and seized weapons caches. One arms depot located about 30 km northeast of Fallujah contained the perfect IED building materials: 194 Soviet-style 152 mm and 34 South African 155 mm artillery shells, along with 84 Swatter anti-tank missiles, fragmentation rockets and other munitions. - Adam Geibel
