: Only one American is still missing from the 1991 Gulf War: Lieutenant Commander Michael Speicher. His F-18 was shot down in a dogfight on the first night of the war; the military declared him dead in May 91. Iraq found what it claimed was the wreckage of his plane but his remains were not in it. The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence has ordered the military and CIA to investigate the case and determine if Speicher was in fact killed or has spent the last 9 years in an Iraqi prison. Both promised to cooperate fully and to make every effort to find him or his remains.--Stephen V Cole
