India and Russia reaffirmed their military and economic ties. While Russia sells weapons and technology cheap, increasing numbers of Indians are dismayed at the shoddy quality of the Russian goods. While this does not matter much in the case of weapons, as none of Pakistan's potential foes have anything better, the second rate industrial technology hurts India's competitiveness on world markets.

Rebel violence in Kashmir left two dead.

The new pro-Islamic governments in Pakistan are releasing terrorism suspects arrested during the Afghanistan campaign. Today, 13 known militants were released, and 140 other suspects were let go as well. The recent elections brought into office a majority of candidates who promised to "throw the Americans out of Pakistan." However, US troops and intelligence agents continue to operate in the tribal areas.
