Pakistani Islamic fundamentalists have pledged to back equal job opportunities for women, and laws punishing violence against women and "honor killings" (murder of women suspected of illicit relations). Women can vote in Pakistan and increasingly are seen doing so independent of the opinions of their fathers and husbands. 

Britain is closing down supply operations in a Pakistani air base and shifting these operations to Afghanistan.
