 In Chechnya, Russian commandos made a surprise attack on the base of one of terrorist leader Shamil Basayev's chief allies, known as "Emir Suleiman." This man was believed responsible for planning the successful assassination, last May,  of Chechnyas pro-Russian president. The commandos killed "Emir Suleiman" and 21 of his followers in a brief gun battle.
