The UN has appointed Barbadian diplomat Oliver Jackman to mediate the long-standing border dispute between Guyana and Venezuela. Tensions flared recently when Venezuelan troops were sent to the border, but Caracas said these were on an anti-drug mission unrelated to the border issues.--Stephen V Cole
