 Outside the capital, the army clashed with NPA rebels, killing six and capturing five others. On Jolo island, Abu Sayyaf gunmen are suspected of attacking some soldiers, killing one and wounding another. A recent opinion survey showed 75 percent of Filipinos back the use of American troops against Abu Sayyaf.
