Brazil has launched a program to buy 24 modern fighters. (Bidders include the American F-18C Hornet and F-16C Viper, the Russian MiG-29 and Su-30, the French Mirage-2000-5 and Rafale-C, the Swedish JAS39 Gryphon, and the Eurofighter Typhoon.) Brazil is also seeking a dozen medium cargo planes. Bidders include the American C-27J, the Russian An-32, and the Italian C-295.--Stephen V Cole
