The civil war within the LTTE heated up as bit as the rebel faction leader Karuna, offered to assist in capturing senior LTTE members who were responsible for the  1991 assassination of  Indian prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was blown up by a woman suicide bomber in southern India (Tamil Nadu,  the original homeland of the LTTE Tamils in Sri Lanka). The Congress party, long led by members of the Gandi family, is back in power in India, and the capture of Rajiv Gandhi's killers now has a higher priority.
