mso-bidi-language: AR-SA"> The air force's new MiG-27 and Kfir fighters continue to be heavily used in Jaffna, attacking suspected rebel bases deep in the bush. In particular, the government wants to hit training bases that their ground forces cannot get close to.  The president has called for new parliamentary elections in October, in an attempt to overcome opposition to a new constitution that might stop the Tamil rebellion.
