The government says it has released seven opposition political leaders it had put under arrest when the king removed the elected government. About a hundred people were arrested on February 1st, when the king removed the government.

In western Nepal, Maoists attacked a prison, freeing 150 prisoners. Five policemen and two rebels died in the operation.
