Rebels broke into a bank in the capital over the weekend and stole $700,000. Since the Maoist rebels have been tagged as international terrorists, their overseas fund raising has been curbed and they have had to turn to extortion and theft inside Nepal to fund their operations. Meanwhile, the rebels are trying to gain control of larger areas of the country by forcing pro-government civilians to flee. This terrorism is accompanied by extortion of businesses.
