Israel: June 2, 2003

The Israelis are going along with the American sponsored peace plan (to establish an independent Palestinian state). So are the Palestinians, who must stop the terrorist attacks on Israelis before the Israelis will withdraw troops from Palestinian territory. The problem with all this is that all media and propaganda on the Palestinian side (all in Arabic, of course) preaches the destruction of Israel (so that Palestinian can occupy "Greater Palestine," which includes all of Israel.) The Palestinian terrorist organizations are founded on the idea of destroying Israel, and nothing less. Palestinian terrorists are apparently willing to go along with a truce if that will reduce the Israeli military pressure. This will enable the terrorists to rebuild their battered organization and rebuild their weapons supplies. The Israelis are aware of the Palestinian attitudes, and, while there is support for any kind of peace, there is also a feeling that the "war" will continue until the Palestinians change their minds, or Israel expels Palestinians from the West Bank (and turns Gaza into a tightly guarded prison camp.) Few politicians outside the Arab world will publicly admit that this situation exists inside the Palestinian community, but a visit to the official Palestinian web sites, or a look at Palestinian newspapers and electronic media, will show the hatred and determination to destroy Israel.
