Despite tensions over the Palestinian violence, trade between Israel and Jordan was up 30 percent in the first six months of 2002. 

Israeli intelligence said it believes Palestinian Authority leader Yassir Arafat has amassed a personal fortune of $1.3 billion. Corruption among Palestinian Authority leaders has long been a source of discontent among Palestinians. Some Israelis believe Arafat began the latest violence to sidetrack unrest over the corruption.
