:   Iran and Turkey have agreed that they will not allow the Kurds in northern Iraq to establish an independent Kurdistan. Turkey has threatened to invade northern Iraq if the Kurds declare independence (which the Kurds say they will not do) or move south and seize the Kirkuk oil fields (which the Kurds are not promising anything about.) This cooperation with Turkey marks a major improvement in relations with Turkey.
