Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica attempted to fire Yugoslav Army Chief of Staff General Nebojsa Pavkovic. However, Pavkovic refused to step down. Kostunica immediately summoned a meeting of Pavkovics chief subordinates and named General Branko Krga, (Pavkovics number two) to replace him. Pavkovic is a supporter of former Serb dictator Slobodan Milosevic. Pavkovic said Kostunica committed an illegal act in trying to remove him.
