A US-led oil group intends to build a pipeline across the Balkans. The route would run from the Bulgarian port of Bourgas (on the Black Sea) to Vlore in Albania (on the Adriatic). The pipeline would runs 890 kilometers, and cross disputed territory (Macedonia, for example). The 750,000 barrel per day pipeline would relieve congestion in the Turkish Straits. Bulgaria has expressed interest in running a pipeline from Bourgas to the Greek port of Alexandropolis (on the Aegean).
