Iran bought six Orion patrol planes before the Shah fell, and has managed to keep two of them flying by cannibalization and smuggling in spare parts. As the planes are now worn out and hard to maintain, Iran plans to convert license-built An-140 transports for the maritime patrol mission.--Stephen V Cole
