Amid some political controversy, Israel is spending $112 million to build a command bunker outside Jerusalem. The complex consists of tunnels dug deep into the Judean hills and is designed to withstand nuclear, chemical and biological attack. Construction was kept secret until recently, when a TV station obtained video of the work on the tunnels. Apparently alarmed at continued efforts by hostile Moslem nations to obtain nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, the bunker is intended to keep Israel's senior leadership functioning in a worst case war. For the same reason, Israel is equipping it's new submarines with cruise missiles carrying nuclear warheads.
