Archives

December 15, 2006: Singapore has introduced a new, 24 ton, infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), the Bionix II. The vehicle is armed with a 30mm automatic cannon, and two 7.62mm machine-guns. The vehicle can carry up to ten troops, and has a top speed of 70 kilometers an hour. On one load of fuel, it can move 400 kilometers on roads. Equipped with enhanced armor, it can defeat most RPG warheads. The fire control system has a thermal imager, and a digital communications system that enables it to immediately exchange data with other Bionix vehicles, and the second-hand Leopard 2 tanks Singapore has bought from Germany. Singapore is installing the same electronics in the Leopards, that are already in the Bionix vehicles. The digital communications system is similar to what is being introduced in American armored vehicles.
