In Darfur, the chaos has been increased as many gunmen leave the government supported (and somewhat controlled) militias and go freelance. These bandits are attacking and looting relief convoys. Some of the bandits are even attacking African Union (AU) peacekeeper patrols, at least if the bandits outnumber the AU troops when they encounter them in the bush.
