The government says that starting this January, half it's oil revenue (over $10 million a day) would be given to the south. Exactly who would get the money was not clear, as the day-to-day government in the south is disputed between rebel groups and officials from the north. The oil fields are in the south, which is how the southern rebels got such an oil deal.
