The government is continuing to support joint operations with Uganda against the LRA (Lords Resistance Army) which is operating in northern Uganda, and using bases in southern Sudan. Two of the five major units of the LRA are currently in Sudan. Sudan is eager to cooperate because the LRA has identified itself as a "Christian" organization and has killed Moslems. This has become a hot media item for the Islamic media and makes it personal for the Islamic conservatives that run Sudan, even though the LRA is hiding out in largely Christian areas of southern Sudan. The Christian Sudanese rebel in the south have no affection for the LRA, considering them a bunch of thugs and heretics (a pretty accurate assessment.)
