: The Turkish general staff has announced a deal with the United States, whereby American troops in northern Iraq will go after PKK leaders in northern Iraq. Turkey insists that some 3,000 PKK gunmen are camped out in northern Iraq, tolerated by the two Kurdish governments there. American troops have, so far, gone along with the local Kurds, and left the PKK alone. 

July 11, 2005: A thousand Turkish troops were looking for a Turk soldier kidnapped by the PKK. The Turkish ground units were supported by helicopter gunships. The Turkish military is searching a mountainous area of Tunceli province.
