This isnt surprising. Azerbaijan announced it is "categorically against" an independent Kurdish state in northern Iraq. Azeris are a Turkic people, and Azerbaijan is a close ally of Turkey. Turkey opposes a Kurdish state. A subsequent report said that an Iranian spokesman had said an independent Kurdish state would undermine stability in the region.
