Two PKK guerrillas and one Turkish soldier died in a firefight near the southeastern Turk city of Diyarbakir. On October 12 the Turk Army reported that Turkish troops killed seven PKK guerrillas in a firefight in the province of Simak, near the Syrian-Iraq border. There has been speculation that the PKK still has sanctuaries in Syria.
