A follow-up on a report this past week in StrategyPage regarding Turk use of Iraqi Kurd allies against PKK guerrillas seeking sanctuary in northern Iraq. On July 25 Turkey's Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit thanked the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK, headed by Jalal Talabani, and also sometimes called the Talabani Kurd faction) for helping Turkey combat the PKK. (The PUK is based in northern Iraq.) In the not-too-recent-past, the Turks accused the PUK of aiding the PKK.
