The Italian Air Force has ordered five advanced C-27J airlifters built jointly by Alenia and Lockheed Martin. These have in-flight refueling, head-up displays, and combat self-protection systems. The first aircraft is due to enter service in 2005; the Italians have options for seven more of these aircraft.--Stephen V Cole
