The US sent a battalion from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment to the Mediterranean just before the 11 September attack. This includes three long-range MH-60K Pave Hawk long-range helicopters, two AH-60L helicopters (the long-range attack version of the MH-60K), and two MH-6 light armed recon helicopters. These are being deployed on a large deck helicopter carrier and are supported by at least four Navy MH-53E helicopters configured for in-flight refueling. --Stephen V Cole
