: The Antonov Design Bureau in Ukraine has offered India a program to upgrade its An-32 transports. The program would:

  • Upgrade the avionics and reduce the cockpit crew to two pilots.

  • Rebuild the engines to double the time between overhauls (to 4,000 hours) and triple the service life (to 20,000 hours). This would also increase the cargo capacity from 6 metric tons to 7.5 metric tons.

  • Add new fuel tanks that extend the range from the current 2,200km to 3,200km.

  • Outfit some aircraft with maritime patrol kits including search radar, infrared scanners, and air-to-surface missiles.--Stephen V Cole
