The UN has gotten the diamond industry to refuse to buy diamonds from Sierra Leone rebels. This is more of a PR exercise than anything else, as there are many middlemen ready to stand in for rebels selling their gems. There will, however, be a positive effect in that this program will mean less money for the rebels, and this fewer guns and paid fighters.
