Sierra Leone: October 12, 1999

Former rebel leader Foday Sankoh warns that the UN should not be too hasty to disarm the estimated 45,000 armed men (of all factions) who are supposed to give up their arms. The UN has only 210 staff in the country to take care of the disarmament. Meanwhile, Cholera has broken out among the thousands of refugees, with several dying each day.
