The former rebel FDD, now a political party, has been sweeping local elections and is expected to gain a majority in the upper house of parliament. Despite the success of the Hutu FDD, the other (smaller) Hutu rebel group, the FNL, continues to fight. FDD representatives and supporters have been attacked recently by FNL rebels.
