Rwanda: September 9, 2000

Peace in Burundi? Just because someone signed a treaty? More reports trickle in of renewed fighting around Bujumbura. Burundian government sources reported 20 Hutu rebels killed on September 4 in battles around the capital. Four government soldiers (all described as Tutsis) died in a firefight in Nyanza-Lac. On September 8, Hutu rebels reportedly killed five civilians in two other attacks in Cankuzo province (eastern Burundi).
