Government troops have recaptured the provincial capital of Gbarnga 160 kilometers north of the capital.  Gbarnga has considerable symbolic importance, as it was president Taylors base during the Liberian civil war of the 1990s. Meanwhile, a police commander was dismissed for looting president Taylor's home in Arthington (Taylor's home town 20 kilometers northwest of the capital.)  There has been much looting in all the areas where troops and rebels are fighting, and both sides apparently join in.
