Liberia: March 30, 2002

Lack of accurate reporting from the diamond mining areas in the north leaves everyone wondering if the government is still in control up there. Apparently many small bands of armed rebels are moving about the area, skirmishing with groups of soldiers, and often running off the troops. The town of Suehn may not have fallen, as the government insists. But apparently the rebels aren't after towns, but the diamond fields, which are now being worked by rebels, or miners willing to share their finds with the rebels. It's all about money more than anything else.
